4396841

Hey wait! Before you grab that phone and dial the number in the title of this post, let me tell you first what it really is. First of all, it is not my telephone number (big grin). Although it looks like a land line telephone number (here in the Philippines, most of the land line telephone numbers are composed of 7 digits), this is not my land line number. So forget about grabbing that phone and dialling (big grin). Are these numbers lucky and may be used for the lottery? (big grin) Perhaps you can try; lucky you if you win, hehehe... You can make another guess. But definitely, these are not vital statistics (and if ever they are vital statistics, these are definitely NOT my vital statistics). Alright, I will tell you what the numbers 4396841 really is? These numbers are actually codes. Nope, they are not codes for a safety box! (big grin). These are part numbers of refrigerator filters.

Most manufacturers uses codes or part numbers to identify their products; especially those products that have several models or groups. Whenever I buy any computer peripherals and hardware for the office, I always use the part numbers of the items. I gave the part number to our suppliers to make sure that they will submit pricing/proposals for the right item. These part numbers are also used in monitoring inventory. Being in the purchasing realm for quite a long time now, I would say that these codes and part numbers are really useful, not only for the manufacturers but for the end-users of the products as well. I hope the next time you go shopping, whether online or actual shopping, I suggest that you also take note of these "other" sets of numbers. You should also take note of these codes and part numbers of the items you are buying; and not just the numbers on the price tags (big grin). These numbers will ensure that you are buying the right item/product.
